Strathmore is one of Wheatland County’s closest neighbours, and the two municipalities have a number of commonalities and joint infrastructure projects.

Next month, there are plans for the new councils from the Town of Strathmore and Wheatland County to meet at an informal meeting. It’s unclear where the meeting will be held so far, but it will be a chance for the new councils to introduce themselves and to network.

Wheatland County Reeve Amber Link explained to the council, “In our last term, at the beginning of the term, we did do some outreach and engagement just with our neighboring municipalities.

So some of the rural municipalities around us we will make an active effort to get to know the counselors that we interact with at times, there are development issues on borders where it's really good to have that sort of pre-established relationship with our neighbors,” said Link

She noted that in 2017 there was an informal meet and greet dinner held between Strathmore and Wheatland County. It was an opportunity to build on the relationships between the two municipalities.

“That's a good opportunity to bring forward sort of issues, concerns, or advocacy items that might affect all of us in this region,” she said.

Wheatland County CAO Brian Henderson explained that in the strategic plan for Wheatland County,

“The key result line is, develop strategic partnerships. It is to leverage partnerships with surrounding communities to continue to meet the growing needs and demands of the county.”

The meeting is tentatively scheduled for December 14.
