Coming off a winning weekend, the Wheatland U18AA Chiefs will be regrouping and focusing on the next face-off, against the Foothills Bisons this weekend.

Head coach Colton Grant explained that last weekend, the Chiefs travelled to Caronport near Moose Jaw to take part in the Prairie Classic.

“We played teams from kind of all Manitoba, Saskatchewan, BC and then some from Alberta,” said Grant.

The Chiefs won the tournament after playing a number of academy/prep programs and school teams.

Grant speaks about how the Chiefs have been playing this season.

“We play Foothills this weekend. They're in our south division so we play them quite a few times in the year, the regular season,” said Grant.

“They're near the bottom of the standings, but they're a team that's always hard working and they always give you a test. It doesn't really matter who we're playing we' kind of have the attitude where we want to be playing at our highest level, no matter who we're playing. And that's kind of our mentality going against them.”

The Chiefs are playing well this season.

“It's been a pretty good year so far. We've had some ups and downs, much like I'm sure any team has.

"What's kind of grown in the past few weeks is just a little bit of consistency in our game. Being able to handle adversity and bounce back from that and those are important traits, especially when we get into playoffs, so having those characteristics in our game is a good thing to build down the stretch here,” Grant said

Playoffs will be held in a tournament format on March 10 to 13 in Medicine Hat.

Next, the Chiefs are back on the ice to take on the Calgary CRAA Gold on Saturday and the Foothills Bisons on Sunday. The last time the team played the Bisons it ended with a 7 to 3 win for the Chiefs.

Both games will be played at the Hussar.
