Wheatland County has declared a Municipal Agricultural Disaster due to the extended drought conditions we've experienced.

"Low growing season moisture compounded by extended periods of extreme heat, both of which have substantially depleted our soil moisture reserves have dealt a severe blow to all facets of agricultural production within Wheatland County," a County press release said.

Stating "This declaration highlights the significant challenges our agricultural producers are encountering and will face over the next several months," it seems the press release believes no immediate relief is on the way for farmers struggling with intense heat.

The County added they are committed to work with all levels of government and are working on the development and implementation of a recovery program to support farmers during this difficult time.

In the past couple of weeks Foothills County along with Vulcan County declared an Agricultural Disaster, as has the County of Stettler.

According to Environment Canada's 7-day forecast for Strathmore, as of July 7 8:10 a.m. it appears we may be getting some rain, which would be welcome news for the County.
