Your Wheatland Kings are back for the preseason game on Saturday night at 8 p.m. taking on the Three Hills Thrashers, entry into the game will be free this week for fans.

Last Friday the Kings beat the Thrashers 4-3 and they are looking for back-to-back wins, Wheatland Kings General Manager Lee Smith was pleased with how the players came together as they are a fairly new team this year.

"They definitely had a good game the biggest thing is a lot of these guys hadn't been on the ice for a year to a year and a half so they were just getting their legs under them,  there was a lot of smiles in the room that's for sure they were glad to be back playing hockey."

This year's team is made up of a lot of new players and very few veterans Smith explained and the management team is ready to put in the work with their Head Coach Ron West.

"We've built this team pretty much from the ground up we've only got a handful of veterans back so we're definitely a younger team, we will be really good in goal and our defense is going to be really strong, and we've got l work to do on the front but it's definitely doable for sure."

The team is still in tryout mode explains Smith noting that on Saturday night there will still be a couple of players on the bubble that are playing for their spot.

Last week they managed to win against Three Hills and Smith says it could be a tougher game this weekend as Three Hills seems to have their team in place based on the roster they sent over.

The regular season starts on Saturday, September 18th with Cochrane coming to Strathmore for the home opener, this Kings will hit the ice for an 8:30 p.m. start tickets can be purchased on their website or at the door to attend any home game.
