The Wheatland Warriors play in the South Central Alberta Hockey League and are currently in first place in the Southern division with 15 wins and 3 losses.

Wheatland Warriors Coach Derek Puttick is pleased with how the team has come together so far this year, “Overall, the boys have been playing well. Our last game was against Medicine Hat. We treated it as a 4 point game. If we won we would gain a 3 point lead in the standings, a loss and we would be 1 point back. The boys came out with a pretty good effort. We had good goaltending and balanced scoring giving a 6-2 win.”

Prepping for their next game the team will be going up against a team they have had success against in the past, “Going into Taber, it's an opportunity for us to expand on our lead in the South Division. We've played them twice earlier in the year, winning both games. Taber will be a much-improved team looking to get even, we will need to be ready for them.”

Puttick notes there is always room for improvement even when you are in first place you have to put in the work to stay there, “We are really pushing to get consistency out of the boys, working towards a 60-minute effort.”

The Wheatland Warriors have two games on the road this weekend against Taber and Cochrane and will be in Hussar on January 21st to take on the Foothills Bisons.
