Sophia and Abbie Schwabe are taking the Strathmore art scene by storm. The two sisters are the artists being showcased at the Strathmore Municipal Library’s gallery for the month of November.

The show is the first of its kind for the two, who are only 9 (Abbie) and 7 (Sophia) years old.

Abbie explained that the Schwabes are showing paint pours in their exhibit.

Sophia says, “A paint pour is when you get a whole bunch of paint and then you can put it on a canvas

with a cup, and you flip it upside down and then you can do string pulls and a balloon smashes too.”

Each of the girls has a favourite piece, Abbie’s is called “A World Without Colour.”

“It was the only painting I ever did with black and white colors,” she said.

“Out There,” is Sophia’s favourite, which is a black and white piece if hints of orange and pink as well.

In terms of what they both enjoy about being artists, Sophia says, “you can just ake up a bunch of new designs and you can be wild and creative.”

Abbie says, “Just having no boundaries and you can just do whatever you'd like on it.”

The girls are excited to be able to show their art for the first time in an exhibit.

A portion of the proceeds from the sale of artworks goes towards supporting the Strathmore Municipal Library programming.
