A group of young Strathmore area soccer players are being given a chance to head to provincials in Edmonton in March.

The Strathmore Spurs U13 Tier 4 team consists of boys and girls aged 11 and 12 years old that have been practicing hard and improving after each game. The team practices at the Strathmore Motor Products Sports Centre indoor soccer field each week.

The team plays in the Strathmore Soccer Association under the Canal Links Soccer Federation.

According to Coach Nicole Giese, “We were asked by our league (Canal Links) if we wanted to attend provincials because we have the opportunity and decided to accept the invitation to give our players a chance to participate in something they never have before.”

“We have a lot of new players on the team this year and they have come a long way since the beginning of the season. They improve every practice and game and work very hard. We don’t know what kind of teams we will be up against in Provincials but we will find out and do our best!”

The provincials will take place in Edmonton, March 11 to 13th.

In the meantime, the Spurs have set up a Go Fund Me account that they hope will help offset some of the costs associated with getting to the competition like booking hotels for the players, and the entry fee for Alberta Soccer.
