On December 25, 2018, a lone man dressed in blue broke into the doors at the Strathmore Arena loaded up the ATM and drove away in a stolen pickup truck.
Stanley Security Solutions was at the arena fixing the damaged door today and assessing the possibility of saving any parts from the door.
A similar crime took place in a Rexall Drugs and now two more have been attempted or have been outright stolen in the last few days.
On Jan. 1, 2019 Okotoks RCMP responded to a break and enter at the Okotoks Rec Centre where a male suspect driving an older white van attempted to steal the ATM. He was unsuccessful in his attempt and fled the location causing minor damage to the front doors of the Rec Centre.
On January 7, 2019 Airdrie RCMP responded to a commercial alarm at the Crossfield Shell where a video shows a male suspect smashing the window of the front door and gaining access into the business. The man tied tow ropes to the ATM, connected the other end to his van and drove away, causing significant damage to the interior and exterior of the gas station. The ATM was taken which contained an undisclosed amount of money.
In the most recent thefts, the description for the male were very similar. The suspect was wearing a full blue suit with high visibility yellow markers that were placed vertically. The high visibility markers also formed an X on his back.
