Registration is now open for an acrylic paint flow art class offered through the Strathmore Municipal Library. Called ‘Inspire Your Heart With Art,’ the program, which costs $5 is open to 20 children. Registration opened on January 7 at 10 a.m.
The course will be held on January 31 in two sessions, one for kids aged 6 to 9 years old and another for kids 10 years old and up.
The program will be led by Carmen Erison, who is also the assistant director of library service, assisted by artist Heather Ulmer.
Erison explained that fluid art has grown in popularity over the last few years. \
“For the younger class, ages 6 to 9, we will be mixing up the paint ahead of time and teaching the children different techniques from flip cups, possibly string pulls, different types of technique on how to get those unusual shapes and cells that you see often in fluid art,” she said.
For the older children organizers will go into the process of how to mix the paints in order to get beautiful cells that are often seen in those types of paintings.
Fluid art is a newly discovered passion for Erison, who is an artist herself.
“I discovered fluid art about two months ago. I love the creativity that it allows. Once I started creating these pieces I wanted to show other people how to create these pieces of art, and so that’s where this program came into mind,” she said.
“We are starting off with children to get them inspired by art and let their creative minds flow with painting,” she said.
“I am excited to see the pieces that the children create and this will be a beautiful work of art that they will be able to hang in their own homes and say ‘I did that’,” said Erison.
Organizers hope in the future to offer a more advanced course to adults.
Children are encouraged to wear old clothing to the class as working with paints will be messy.
Erison’s art will also be exhibited in the gallery space at the library during the month of March.
“I am so inspired by this art that I am finally comfortable enough and ready to exhibit it in the public,” said Erison.
