A fundraiser spurred by a Strathmore resident for the Strathmore Library has been a success. Last month Natalie Dannatt approached the library with an idea for a silent auction.
“Monday March 4 is when our ‘I love the Strathmore Library Community Silent Auction’ opened. We had over 70 donations from local businesses, even businesses extending out to Waterton, Airdrie, and Calgary,” said Carmen Erison, assistant director of library services. “It’s just truly overwhelming and very heartwarming,” she said.
Now, the library is looking to celebrate and share the success with the community by hosting a Silent Auction Wrap-Up Party on March 16.
The event will take place from 6 to 9 p.m. and will include food, music, and games along with face painting with Angela Hitch.
The wrap-up party is a free and family-friendly event.
The auction will continue to be open until 8 p.m.
“What’s unique is we will have all of the computers open, so people can continue to bid online as well as on the items on the tables,” she said.
“This is your chance to support the library and help make a difference,” said Erison.
“We are so humbled and feel like we need to wrap this up with a great big party, not only to help bidders get in our their last minute bids on their favourite items, but also to say thank you to our donors and to really celebrate what has happened here,” said Erison,
“I want to extend a big thank you to all of the community members and businesses that donated to this auction. We are truly touched by their support and we are just overwhelmed by the amount that we saw. It’s really a wonderful experience,” she said.
The library would like to extend a huge thank you to Natalie Dannatt.
“This auction would not have happened if it wasn’t for her sending me a message saying what can I do?” said Erison.
“From there it spiraled into this big beautiful auction that has already raised a couple thousand dollars so far,” she said.
Erison explained that Dannatt worked tirelessly, collecting items, fielded messages and phone calls from businesses and helped to plan the wrap up party.
