Strathmore Overnight Shelter’s Out Of The Cold Fundraiser Walk was a success.
The overnight shelter was able to raise about $3,000 from the walk, and all the funds raised from the event went directly to the shelter.
There was a good turnout of around 50 people to the event. Members of town council were on hand, as well as Mayor Pat Fule and Strathmore-Brooks MLA Derek Fildebrandt.
Pastor Elisabeth Karp said, “the community awareness and the support of the people, knowing what we are trying to do there makes all the difference in the world. The volunteers and the community, what they contribute, there wouldn’t be a shelter without them.”
According to Karp, they started the Out Of The Cold Fundraiser Walk three years ago to gather the community to raise awareness and to raise funds for the overnight shelter. Karp said, “the whole thing behind the cold walk is that you are walking in February, or March on a cold night, It makes you think about and realise as you are walking there is people out there that don’t have anywhere to live.”
