The 2019 U12B Ringette Alberta Provincials took place in Rockyford and Hussar March 8-10.  After playdowns in the weeks leading up to this tournament, there were 12 teams from all over Alberta that qualified for provincials.

The Rockyford Ringers U12B team were the hosts of the tournament and came into the weekend with one goal in mind, to take home gold. With coaches Bradie Munro, Alex Kathol and Hailey Kenney and manager Tiffany Phillips at the helm the team never doubted they could achieve their goal.

Coach Bradie Munro said, "This was an exciting weekend for our players and fans. Being the host team required weeks of planning. Many hours of hard work went into organizing and orchestrating this event. There was a banquet and opening ceremonies held at Wheatland Crossing School Friday evening which was catered by the Rockyford Lions Club.

WIth many local businesses donating raffle items and sponsoring the event, Munro said this event couldn’t have happened without all the support from the community, the minor ringette association, and the ringette families.

The Ringers secured their place in the playoffs after going undefeated throughout the round robin. The semi-final game was held in Hussar on Sunday morning, and the arena was filled with the local community cheering the team on.

Going into the second period of the semi-final the Ringers were down 5-2. They played hard and tied the game in regulation. They went into sudden death overtime and the Ringers came out with a win sending them to the gold medal final.

Before the final game, Munro told the girls, “No matter the outcome of today’s game, know that we are proud of you all. Your coaches, your parents, and this community. Hold your heads up high and know you played with sportsmanship, pride, and true grit. Never giving up because it’s hard to beat a team that never stops trying”. That has been their team motto for the entire season.

The final game took place on Sunday afternoon in Rockyford. The community came out and filled the arena to support the team for the final game.  In an exciting back and forth game the Ringers fought hard and with a final score of 5-4 took home the gold and are the 2019 provincial champions.
