There is warmer weather starting up in the Strathmore area this week.
According to Kyle Fougere, Meteorologist with Environment and Climate Change Canada, Strathmore will have more springtime weather. He said, “this weekend was one of the first times we really broke out of that really cold arctic air that was sitting over the province for most of February, and the first week of March.”
Fougere said, “heading forward, we are going to sit around more normal temperatures for this time of year. For reference a normal high at this time of year is 3 C and a low of - 8 C in the morning.”
He said, March and April are some of the more snowy months in Southern Alberta. “But the good news is the sun is getting a lot higher in the sky, and it's getting warmer, so the snow tends to not stick around as much,” he said.
“There is a high of 5 C today, so it's a good day to enjoy it if you can. We are looking at some snow in Strathmore area for tomorrow,” said Fougere.
“Don't expect too much, probably less than two to four centimeters. There is a potential for a little bit of snow before a ridge of high pressure comes in on Wednesday, and we get those sunny skies again,” he said.
“As we get into a spring season the snow tends to have a little more moisture in it, and it gets heavier. It can be pretty strenuous to try to clear the snow,” said Fougere. He explained, if you are clearing a lot of snow to make sure to take a lot of breaks.
