The Strathmore Station is having a food drive for the Veterans Association Food Bank (VAFB) on January 13, 2019.
David Pocock, a member of the VAFB and president of the Canadian Veterans Freedom Riders Calgary, talked about the group and its start up.
Pocock said that the VAFB started up shortly after the Poppy Fund Veterans Food Bank closed. Veterans got together and started putting everything together. So far the association has been open for about 10 weeks.
According to Pocock, the group has veterans supporting veterans. They not only offer food hampers for veterans, but will soon offer an AA group, as well as peer support groups.
Pocock also mentioned that the VAFB not only serves the Calgary area, but they also cover Strathmore to Cochrane, and from Crossfield down to High River.
According to Pocock, veterans who want to inquire about the association can call 403-367-8387 or email at [email protected]
Pocock said that anyone who comes to The Strathmore Station on January 13, 2019, and brings a non-perishable food item to donate to the VAFB will get a discount of five per-cent off their bill for the day.
