Wheatland 4H District Communications Competition was held on March 9 at the Strathmore Civic Centre.

The 4-H club has always been a staple for youth in the rural community, throughout the year members will work with the farm animal of their choice raising and caring for them.

As well 4-H focuses heavily on teaching the members the importance of communication. Speaking in front of a group is one of the top fears in Canadian adults. Some 4-H alumni will often list communication skills as one of the biggest assets they acquired while in the 4-H program.

Members will practice over the course of the year prior to their competition. This year awards were handed out in the junior, intermediate, and senior speech and presentation divisions.

Junior presentations had Jenna Herriot coming in first, and Lucas Jordan in second place. The intermediate presentation awards were presented to Abby Van Egmond for first and Corbin Neal for second.

Avery Koole was first and Colby Nelson second in the junior speeches, Jayce Beekman came in first with Jason Slemko coming in second in the intermediate speeches, in the senior division Grace Huever in first with Erin Slemko in second.
