A fundraiser for the Alzheimer Society of Calgary was held at Origin Taproom on January 28, and raised an incredible total of $2500.

Daniel Wiewel of MaxSPL Music hosted the fundraiser to honor his aunt who passed away from Alzheimer's, and was overjoyed with the strong community support his fundraiser got.

"I was blown away because Origin handled most of the silent auction donations and it stretched all the way around the bar, as far as the eye could see, there was a lot of donations," he said.

Wiewel was expecting to earn around $1000, so more than doubling his expectations was a pleasant surprise. Beyond the obvious goal of raising money for the Alzheimer's Society, Wiewel added it was also just an enjoyable night.

"I got to hear some of my fellow instructors here perform for the first time. That was really cool because I'd heard them play in the practice rooms, but I hadn't seen them on stage before, so that was quite enjoyable for me."

The saying goes it takes a village and Wiewel saw that first hand when it came to this event, "A big thank you to Origin for hosting it and being incredibly supportive in terms of making the whole event work, they were just amazing."

The event went so well that he's considering making it an annual event! While Wiewel was the organizer behind it, he added this event wouldn't have been possible without Origin Taproom hosting the event and helping with the silent auction, as well as all the support from local businesses who donated items for the auction.
