Strathmore will have some amazing art from local youth showcased at the Strathmore Municipal Library. These art pieces are posters from the Lions Club’s Peace Poster Contest.

“Each year we invite all the schools that have students between the age of 11-13 to participate in the peace poster contest of the Lions International Club," explained Lions member, Lynne Tilley. "The students who earn 1st place posters, one from each school are sent on to the district level for further judging. The one that wins from there, is then sent on for further judging after in a larger region.”

This year, a Strathmore student has made it to the next level of recognition.“The student won at the district level this year was Jasmine Hickman from the Holy Cross School.”

When Tilley was asked what her favourite poster she has seen in her 4-year run organizing this contest was, she answered, “Actually, the I think it was the one that impressed me was Jasmine’s poster this year. It was amazing. Every year I’m just amazed at the talent that's out there with these kids.”

Thirteen other first and second-place posters will be proudly hung at the library for the community to see until December 10.

“I think we do this, as a club, to engage younger people, and encourage them to try and get along with everyone. To be aware that there are other countries and cultures in the world.”

If you can’t make it into the library, all the posters will be posted to the Strathmore Lions Club Facebook page and website.
