The Strathmore Huskers cornhole club continues to grow at an incredible pace, and you can get in on the fun early by joining the fall league.

Starting up on September 19, Huskers President Lance Smith explained registration is as simple as just showing up and registering on the spot. For $100 you get 10 weeks of league play, or if you can't commit to weekly play you can just show up whenever you can and pay for the individual day.

Smith has been busy promoting cornhole recently, as he brought the game to Big Valley Jamboree for the first time ever, and has been involved in other huge events.

"Two of us organizers did go and play in the inaugural cornhole tournament in McMahon Stadium, and that was on Labour Day Monday. It was in the pouring rain, but otherwise that was a really neat experience to get to go play right on the field," Smith said.

Even though Smith knows how popular cornhole has been recently, even he was surprised at just how quickly he's been able to grow the sport.

"I think we've barely begun to scratch the surface of how big it can get. You know, maybe next year we could get a stadium full of people watching us play instead of in front of an empty stadium. It's pretty cool, actually, to see the things that even in the last year that I didn't think would have been possible once I decided to start my league... it has been pretty crazy."

With how fast cornhole is growing, he encourages everyone to join the Huskers and get in on the fun early so you can be a part of the exciting rise of a new sport. Smith says one of the huge advantages of cornhole is it's incredibly accessible to anyone who wants to give it a shot.

"I had people playing last year say 'I love this because I can't run or do any other sports but I can come and play cornhole.'"

Smith added that the Huskers are drawing bigger numbers than any other cornhole league in the province, so now is definitely a good time to join and meet some new people and make some friends.
