It might be time to dig out the old snow shovel as a little rain that might turn into snow is being forecasted for the Strathmore area on Friday.

Kyle Fougere, a meteorologist with Environment and Climate Change Canada says, “We do have a low-pressure system that's moving into Southern Alberta today, and we're going to see some precipitation develop in the Strathmore area tomorrow morning.”

He notes that further West will probably see quite a bit of snow in the Banff, Canmore, and Kananaskis region. There Fougere expects to see between10 to 25 centimeters of snow.

“But as you move farther East it's likely to start more as rain and then turn over to snow. It makes it very difficult to know exactly how much snow is going to fall because it really depends on when that transition is going to happen,” he said.

For the Calgary region, people should expect to see between 5 to 10 centimeters of snow.

“It's likely to get at least 2 centimeters of snow in Strathmore, but it could be up to five to 10 centimeters of snow for tomorrow, or by Saturday morning. After that it is going to clear but, it will be cold,” said Fougere.

“This system is going to bring colder air down from the north, so we're going to have an end to those above normal temperatures that we've been seeing lately in the Strathmore area. We're seeing daytime highs on Saturday and Sunday around between one and three degrees.”
