Today Prime Minister Justin Trudeau made an announcement of travel restrictions due to COViD-19. The country is closing its borders to non-Canadian citizens and non-permanent residents.

U. S. citizens are exempt from the travel restrictions. 

The government will be announcing restrictions on some international flights. and rerouting flights to Montreal, Toronto, Calgary or Vancouver for dedicated enhanced screening.

Trudeau told Canadians to stay home.

"If you are abroad, it's time for you to come home," he said. 

 He said social distancing doesn't mean that Canadians need to stop talking. He also asked people to look in on their neighbors. 

He thanked the healthcare professionals and spoke of the efforts of the government to protect the community and economy. 

The federal government will be making funds available to families in the days to come, said Trudeau. 

There are currently 56 cases of COVID-19 in Alberta and  324 cases across Canada.

On March 11, the World Health Organization announced the COVID-19 virus was a pandemic.
