Chestermere City Office and Fire Hall will be closed to public access in an effort to keep their frontline staff and the rest of their employees safe from infection of COVID - 19.

Chestermere Mayor Marshal Chalmers stated “We want to limit the exposure and risk of our visitors and our staff contracting COVID-19, and ensure that we can continue to provide municipal services in the coming weeks.  We have decided to close municipal buildings to the public starting Monday, March 16. Instead, we will be offering our services online, via conference and video calls, the telephone and email.”

Chalmers delivered the information in a press conference that was shared through the City of Chestermere's social media channels.  CAO Bernie Morton is also Director of Emergency Management announced, "Effective Monday, March 16, all city buildings will be closed to the public except the RCMP detachment, and the ECO center. They will keep their regular hours. By making these changes we can make sure that we can ensure that we will be able to continue to provide municipal services to the people of Chestermere in the weeks to come."

Emergency services and road maintenance will continue. Curbside collection of organics, recycling and garbage will continue as scheduled.  Mayor Marshal Chalmers talked about the upcoming council meeting, "Our council meeting on Tuesday evening will continue and we will be broadcast on our city's website, but closed to the general public."

Morton also offered advice to the business operators within the city, "I also recommend that our local businesses and organizations take steps to carefully evaluate their operations and planned events. We have resources and recommendations for these community leaders on our website and we urge you to take special precautions to keep you visitors student patron and staff safe."
