Chevy Beaulieu is a singer-songwriter born in Hay River, NWT who now resides in Calgary. From an early age, he was introduced to music, with his dad being a three-time Canadian fiddle champion, and his close family being in a band together, music was something that he was always around.

Being surrounded by musicians and seeing his dad's success Beaulieu never felt he had to follow in his dad's footsteps, "It's pretty hard to live up to growing up, especially when I didn't really have an interest in music. He let me gain interest and play on my own instead of pushing me."

Having that influence was what helped Beaulieu to find his own path, after meeting people over the years who felt forced into music he was thankful for the encouragement to find his own style.  Although he did not take up the fiddle Beaulieu does play the guitar, drums, bass and recently picked up the mandolin.

Some artists are finding their voice not only on stage performing but also through songwriting and Beaulieu is one of those artists, "I've been writing since I was 16 and took it a little bit more seriously when I got older, I only write about what I know. I know partying, working, having fun, and loving things like that."

Beaulieu finds himself more drawn to country music that is a bit grittier, "It's just a different sound. I have different influences, a lot of people that I listen to, a lot of people haven't heard from around here. I listen to a lot of Texas music, I am a big fan of Jason Aldean and Brantley Gilbert, and not very many people are doing that style of country here in Canada."

Beaulieu has always been an artist who stands out from the crowd and he is proud of that, for new and young artists coming up his advice is simple, "Just be yourself that's all you can do and don't really take no for an answer. It took me a long time to get in that mindset, I saw my voice when I was able to get in that mindset. I stopped trying to copy other people's sounds, I got annoyed of playing covers. That's what got me to start writing my own music."

Beaulieu talks about writing his latest single 'Moved To Whiskey.' When it comes to writing, his goal is to write what he knows and hope that it relates to people listening, "I just love seeing everybody's eyes light up when they play one of my songs and they enjoy it, it's my own stories there's nothing else that I could sing about. As soon as you realize people can relate to the words that you're saying or seeing, it's a great feeling."

As he has got older he said the message has changed a bit but he still writes about what he experiences and sometimes he finds a song or a lyric from a simple conversation with someone, from there an idea is sparked and the music can flow.

As with all performers Beaulieu has had a difficult year not being on stage but he has focused on his writing and recording during his downtime and he is still itching to get back on stage.
