Crowther Memorial Junior High School (CMJHS) held its annual Hockey for Hunger.

The stands were filled with cheering students as they watched Grade 9’s from the school's hockey skill development program play an intrasquad game.

The program collects donations for the food bank so that no families go without them at Christmas time.

"Hockey for Hunger was started several years ago. So one part is an opportunity for our Grade 9s who are in our hockey program at our school. It is just a great school spirit activity and then the hunger part is collecting items for the food bank, Wheatland County Food Bank," said CMJHS teacher, Lindsay Walker.

The Strathmore & Wheatland EMS also participated in the challenge to see how much food can fill up an ambulance.

"I was born and raised in Wheatland County and well in Strathmore, so just to be able to give back to the community that you we all serve and we can do more than what kind of people think ambulances do and paramedics do that it's it means so much to be able to help out and have people not go hungry," expressed EMS Taylor Shpyth.

A few of the grade 9 leadership students at CMJHS explained what Hockey for Hunger means to them.

"It is really important because food banks are having massive food shortages right now, so it is good that we can get the whole school together to do something good," said Jayden Clark.

"I think it is very good to bring our school together and to get lots of donations for everyone to be able to eat," said Lilly Drake.

"It feels good to see how much food we've taken in and how much is going to go to the food bank," said Emma Peterson.

Combined CMJHS and Wheatland EMS have raised over 500lbs worth of food donations and an incredible cash donation of $1,140!

Wheatland County EMS gave a warm thank you to a few people who generously donated to the Wheatland County food bank as well,

Darcy Burke, Rob Witty, Wheatland EMS Board, Management, and Staff.
