Strathmore is back under a heat warning and with that, the town has made the decision to reopen the cooling station to provide relief at the Strathmore Motor Products Sports Centre in the community room during the heat wave.

The Town of Strathmore is responding to the region’s heat alert by opening the doors to a free cooling station. The community room in the Strathmore Motor Products Sports Centre is open with air conditioning and water fountains from 8:00 am to 8:00 pm until further notice explained Communications Manager Geoff Person.

“It’s important to take overheating seriously,” said Strathmore’s Director of Emergency Management David Sturgeon. “Exposure to extreme heat can put vulnerable people at risk of heat-related illnesses including heat stroke. This cooling centre is an important way to prevent serious illness.”

Environment Canada issued a heat warning on Wednesday, July 27th for Strathmore and surrounding areas. Updates to the community will be provided as new forecasts are provided by Environment Canada.

Residents are encouraged to take precautions against extreme heat. Learn more at Strathmore.ca/HeatAlert.
