Time to dig out your t-shirts and also your parka because this upcoming weekend is going to be a mix of temperatures.

Sarah Hoffman, a Meteorologist for Environment and Climate Change Canada, says we are going to get a drastic drop in temperature.

“There will be a low-pressure system developed in northern Alberta tomorrow morning. Over the course of the day Saturday, southern Alberta will be in the warm sector of that low-pressure system, so it's going to be quite warm. We're actually forecasting a daytime high of 8 degrees Celsius for Strathmore during the day.”

“That evening, a cold front will go right through the province from north to south and change the weather pretty abruptly in the evening, spreading snow, dropping temperatures and bringing gusty winds in the evening.”

“From 6 p.m. to midnight timeframe we're looking at gusty winds, reduced visibility and blowing snow. The cold temperatures come in behind on Saturday is going to be one of those typical Alberta days where you get all four seasons in one day.”

Travel is not recommended over the weekend, so it might be a great time to hunker down at home. If you do have to travel, Hoffman recommends keeping candles, matches, toques and mittens in your car in case of emergencies.

“Systems like this where we have warm temperatures rapidly dropping, we get that really quick freezing, and that accumulating snow and reduced visibility, we always recommend that you really avoid travel if you can.”
