Strathmore is joining the participACTION community challenge to potentially win $100,000 to support local physical activity and sports initiatives.

ParticipACTION is a national initiative that encourages everyone in Canada to get active throughout the month of June and ultimately recognizes Canada’s Most Active Community.

Sports Centre Manager Lisa Montgomery explains how Strathmore is perfect for this challenge because of how energetic the community really is.

"We already have an energetic community and amenities that support an active lifestyle. If we can bottle that sizzle, we’ll win much more than $100,000, our real prize will be a healthy community."

One of the Town council's strategic priorities is community wellness and the ParticipACTION program fits into the category. In a press release from the Town of Strathmore, they explain that if Strathmore wins the $100,000 that money will go towards improving the recreation supports around the town.

Manager of Recreation and Culture Budd Brazier says that the PartcipACTION Community Challenge is perfectly timed to align with this strategic priority and that it is a win-win for Strathmore.

"Celebrating Parks and Recreation Month is part of our Strategy for Community Wellness. When you have an active, healthy community, it increases the quality of life for everyone."

If you want to participate in the challenge all you need to do is simply track the activities you’re already doing as part of your daily life. Running, walking the dog, cycling, vacuuming. You can join in on the challenge in a few different ways:

• Download the free Participaction App

• Track sports team activities using the community challenge website

• Join a local activity event

• Create a team with your school or workplace

It is encouraged to join in on the community challenge to build stronger, healthier and more active communities across Canada. For more information visit www.participaction.com  or you can visit the Town of Strathmore's website at strathmore.ca
