After the summer of heat waves and very little rain, it has been a tougher harvest for many farms in the area, our first Grain Rush Harvest Dinner winning farm has felt that this year as well.

Hilton ventures farms over 16,000 acres in the area and Dane Hilton said they were a bit rushed this year but did okay, "We don't want to complain too much because they have had it tougher farther east. I would say that we are below average for sure though."

It will mean a bit of a quieter winter Hilton said as there won't be as much to hall and less grain will go to market.

Hilton Ventures is also one of the main malt suppliers for Origin Brewing and other breweries in the area but Hilton said there is no need for Origin fans to worry about a shortage this year, "It's a little tougher to get a perfect malt for Origin or for our other bulk customers but there is still lot's to go around."

Today's winning farm is sponsored by Lakewood of Strathmore. This year the 104.5 More Country team will be bringing 12 farms and their crews along with all the event sponsors to town for a Harvest Dinner catered by Baldwin BBQ, on October 5th at the Legion.  To nominate a farm today visit strathmorenow.com!
