Kings Vs. Sylvan Lake Wranglers

With the playoffs coming up, the Kings want to end the season off with some momentum and that’s just what they came out in the first period. It would be a back and forth game in the first but the Kings would strike early with a goal from Nathan Waiboer to make it a 1-0 game. The Wranglers failed to score on a power-play opportunity and the first period came to end with the Kings leading 1-0.

The Wranglers came out quickly in the second period and scored an early goal to tie the game at 1-1. The action would be back and forth with both teams with both goalies standing tall, the Wranglers got a goal late in the second take the lead up 2-1.

By the midway point in the third period, the Wranglers would add two more goals to make it 4-1. The Kings rallied back towards the end of the third with goals Jayden Hendricks and Will Kathol within 30 seconds of each other to get to within, unfortunately, they were not able to complete their comeback and the Wranglers would take the win with a final score of 4-3. 

 

 

 

Kings Vs. Ponoka Stampeders

The Kings played their last game of the regular season on Saturday, February eighth against the Ponoka Stampeders the team was fired up as they took to the ice against the Ponoka Stampeders. Within the first two minutes, Kings forward Garret Vander Ploeg scored the Kings first goal of the night with a second goal in the first coming off the stick of Jayden Hendricks scored a goal. The Stampeders answered back with two goals in the first sending the teams into the first intermission tied at two. 

During the second period, the tie was broken at the 13-minute mark by the Stampeders, the lead did not last long less than a minute later the Kings answered with a goal from Jayden Hendricks his second of the night. With five minutes left in the second period, the Kings broke the 3-3 tie and scored 4 more goals in 4 minutes from Will Kathol, Thomas Tyson, Kody Hammond, and Jayden Hendricks getting the hat trick on the night. With a last-second goal from Ponoka the second period came to an end with the Kings up 7-4  

The Kings were not done as the headed into the third period. The Kings added two more goals in two minutes from Wacy Sandum and Kody Hammond to put the kings up 9-4, the Stampeders would add one more but could not catch the Kings as the game ended with a final score of 9-5. The Kings ended the season on a high looking to carry that confidence with them as they head into the playoffs this weekend. 

They will take on Medicine Hat with game one taking place on Thursday in Medicine Hat and game two back in Strathmore on Friday, February 14, this will be a best of five series for the Kings and the Cubs.
