The Halloween Costume Exchange was held at the Strathmore Municipal Library.

Carmen Erison, Assistant Director Of Library Services for the Strathmore Municipal Library, explained that she originally started the exchange to help community members in need who couldn’t afford new Halloween costumes, “When it comes to Halloween costumes your child wears it for one day, and then next year they are not going to fit into it. So what a great way to save money and then to just exchange for something new.”

According to Erison, the costume exchange started very small when it was first created six years ago, but has grown every single year. She added that the number of costumes and support for the exchange this year was phenomenal.

“The Halloween Costume Exchange was fantastic. My staff members have told me that it was a super busy night,” explained Erison.

If individuals did not have a costume to exchange, they could instead purchase one through a suggested donation of $2 to the library. Over 173 costumes were exchanged this year, and over $100 was made through donations for the Strathmore Municipal Library.

“It just works out all around, people get costumes, the library receives funding for future programs and services and the community win-wins,” said Erison.
