It was a win and a loss for the Strathmore Wheatland Kings over the weekend! They met the Lomond Lakers on Friday in Vulcan explained Kings General Manager Lee Smith.

“It was a tough one Friday night, their goaltender played really well. We had a few problems on our end but played well enough to win, just didn't get any puck luck,” the Kings lost a close one to the Lakers 6-5.

Saturday at home, the team met the Kanai Junior Braves at the centerline at the Strathmore Family Center Arena winning their previous matchup in September the team was hoping to turn things around on Saturday and get the win.

“Saturday went really well, we won 7-1, everybody was contributing. We've got a lot of our young guys that are starting to put the puck in the net. Everything is starting to come together.”

There were also a couple of milestones for the Kings on Saturday, “Ethan Van Egmond, he really stood out, Gavin Smith was also our player of the game, he got his first-time goal as a Wheatland King of his career, so that's a starting point for him.”

The last couple of games were rough for the Kings as they suffered a few injuries but, Smith said they are heading back in the right direction.

“Morale is really good; we're starting to get over our injury bug. We did suffer another injury this weekend to Cole Walker. He separated his shoulder and we were a little banged up.  But  Garret Vander Ploeg came back and played on Saturday night so we're starting to get a little healthier .”

The Kings are back in Lomond on Friday night and then face High River at home on Saturday at 8 p.m.
