Langdon's been growing and receiving new amenities and an incredibly fast pace, and you can now add a new library and youth centre to the list of things to look forward to! Construction has just started on the lot of what will soon be home to the new building.

Langdon Library Association President Debra Carrobourg explains that this was a project that's been in the works for years, and they got a lot of help from other people.

"A couple years ago the Langdon community was given a library from the Town of Cereal. They were closing their library, so they gifted us their previous library. Essentially it was a library in a box, except we needed a building. So we've been working the last couple years with Rocky View County, the Langdon Community Association, and Synergy as well, to get a community space in Langdon that could host this library as well as be used for other amenities," she said.

The building will be made from pre-fabricated Atco trailers, which will greatly speed up the construction. Currently, the project is in the foundation phase, but they are hoping to have the buildings in the community by September. From there, renovations will be done, and there is currently no timetable for how long that will take. However, there is optimism it could be done before Christmas.

Debra sees the library as being more than just a library, and looks forward to seeing it become a youth centre as well.

"We've linked with Synergy, who also operates out of Chestermere, and they put on a lot of youth programs, from things like board game nights, just having the kids gather so they have a place to hang out, homework help, all of those sorts of things. So it's actually a really good pair because it's similar to things that a library can help supply as well, so it's going to be the two of us working together to provide this for the community."

Langdon Library Association Board Member Corrie Carrobourg is excited to have the library set up, as he believes it will be an incredibly important part of the community. While Langdon has had access to libraries in Strathmore and Chestermere, having one in your own community is a game changer.

"There's a lot of young children still in our community, stay at home moms and dads, that if they've got three kids, to have somewhere to take those children and offer resources that the kids can learn from and help educate them, that's invaluable and it's something that this community has never had," he said.

"To have something that those parents can walk to and have access to is literally priceless. you're affecting the future of all of these children that will be able to utilize the facility."

This is just one of many exciting developments happening in Langdon, as they're also looking forward to a new high school, have had recent park renovations and built a new emergency services building. Debra says seeing Langdon grow the way it has is great.

"It's very exciting, we've been here for over twenty years, and when we moved out here there wasn't much. It's really great to see that amenities are coming, our community is still growing, there's a lot of new developments going on."
