Last week, there was a 30-hour standoff between a man and police in the Calgary community of Penbrooke Meadows.

45-year-old Patrick Robert Kimmel was shot to death by police on March 15 after he barricaded himself inside a home.

The incident started the day before (March 14) when police attempted to execute a search warrant at a home on Penswood Way S.E.

Shots were fired before police entered the home, and residents of the community were asked to seek shelter.

Back in September 2021, Kimmel was arrested for an armed home invasion in Drumheller.

No one was injured during this incident, and it was believed the robbery was targeted.

He was arrested following the break-in and charged with several offenses. His last court appearance was in 2022.

The Alberta Serious Incident Response Team (ASIRT) has taken over the investigation, and Calgary Police will not be releasing any further information.
