Mother Nature has a way of surprising us and that is something that the team organizing the Pond Hockey Winter Festival knows well.

“With everything happening, especially with this big heatwave, we've had to make the decision that the ice is not going to be an acceptable condition for February 20th. We're going to revamp and turn it into a road hockey slash winter festival without the winter part,” explained event organizer Scott Silva with HeckYa.

The tournament will be taking place very similar to the previous plans but will have teams ditch their skates for sneakers.

“We're still going to have Origin down there with beer gardens, a lot of family activities as well, from Royal LaPage Benchmark. It is still going to be a great time.”

There will also be live music from local musicians at the event, including Drew Gregory.

“This is all in support of the Wheatland & Area Hospice Society, so we definitely are taking donations for them. Everything is open and accessible to everyone but if they would like to donate, it will all be going towards the Hospice Society.”

Silva notes that for those who may not be able to attend but would still like to donate they can visit the website pondhockeywinterfestival.ca and there is a donate button that will send the donations directly to The Wheatland & Area Hospice Society.
