We don’t want to jinx the nice weather Strathmore has been experiencing, but it is a known fact that the snow will fall and be here to stay eventually.

The Strathmore Fire Department has a few tips and tricks to keep in mind while preparing for this winter.

“We just want to make sure all the residents install carbon monoxide alarms on every level of the house. One of the biggest things is testing your carbon monoxide monitors at least once a month, that is what we recommend,” explained Strathmore Fire Department Captain Eric Alexander.

“Getting a certified technician to come in and look at your gas-burning stove would go a long way to reducing the risk of having the possibility of carbon monoxide buildup within your home as well.”

He also encouraged people to not let their cars warm up inside enclosed garages. He suggested taking the vehicle outside before letting it idle.

When the snow falls, Alexander also suggested keeping an eye on the outside of your house.”

“Doing a walk around your house and making sure that the vents on the exterior of your home are free of any debris from the ice and snow.”

Alexander also wanted to remind residents to check their batteries on smoke and carbon monoxide detectors regularly.
