On Sunday, July 5, two weeks from now, golfers will be flocking to Strathmore as the Strathmore Golf Club is hosting the RBC PGA Scramble.

The way it works is that local golfers, in teams of four, can take part in a qualifier of the RBC PGA Scramble.

Cole Crawford, a spokesperson for RBC explained, “The RBC PGA Scramble is a national series of golf events and it gives a chance of amateur golfers across the country to get their shot at winning a national championship.”

A scramble is a type of golf play with there is a team of four usually and all four team members tee off on each hole and then decided which tee shot is the best and mark the spot with a tee or ball marker. Each team member places their ball within one club-length of the spot.

The winners of each local qualifier are invited to play at one of 11 regional finals in the summer.

After that, the winners of regional finals are given the chance to take part in the National Championship and the Cabot Links Golf Course in Nova Scotia in the fall.

He says that the great thing about the program is that golfers across the country from small, or large towns are able to compete.

Crawford added,“If COVID-19 restrictions do hamper travel, then golfers can expect an enhanced regional final later in the fall. But the plan is still to hopefully all lead up to the national final in Cabot Links in October.”

The competition is open to teams of four eligible amateur golfers who all have an up-to-date Golf Canada handicap and are 19 years of age and older. Register here.

The deadline for registration for the qualifier is on June 28. For more information on fees for members and non-members of the club, visit the Strathmore Golf Club’s website.
