The Calgary Stampede has wrapped up, and the rodeo fun the summer is just getting started. The Strathmore Stampede is right around the corner, but if you need your rodeo fix as soon as possible, the 64th annual Rockyford Rodeo has you covered.

Featuring both professional and local rodeo athletes, Rockyford Lions Club President Dan Munro is excited to feature not only the top riders, but also our young up-and-coming talent.

"The goal is to get a lot of local kids involved with the mutton busting, their parents get to have fun watching their kids do the event and then they get to enjoy the professional show as well. All the people that helped put on the event are all locals, we're all there and we enjoy seeing the kids in our community have some fun as well."

Beyond the obvious headlining event of the rodeo itself, Munro explained there will be no shortage of activities to enjoy, including:

  • Free pancake breakfast
  • Parade
  • All-ages cabaret featuring live music from Drew Gregory
  • A wrestling performance in the hockey arena
  • Free dry camping. Munro explained they wanted to make it easy for anyone traveling for the rodeo to stay the entire weekend.

Celebrating the 64th Rockyford Rodeo is special for Munro and the community, as he explained the event is organized by community volunteers so being able to host a high quality rodeo based purely off of the community's effort is something he and the community take a lot of pride in.

"People from all over the province know our rodeo, contestants all over Western Canada know our rodeo and love coming to it because it's been so professionally done for so many years and it's the dedication of not just past Lions members organizing it and the current members, but also the community that steps up to help us put it on for all those years."

Perhaps one of the best aspects of the Rockyford Rodeo is how budget-friendly it is, "I don't know where you can get as much entertainment for the dollar value," Munro explained an individual entry is $30, but a family pass for the whole weekend is $200. He compared it to watching a movie in Calgary which may cost $25 for tickets alone, and when you consider how much the Rockyford Rodeo has to offer for an entire weekend, it's clear you'll be getting your money's worth.

The Rockyford Rodeo will take place on July 28 and 29. For more information, you can visit their website here.
