Due to the cancellation of classes and a lack of children at schools in Strathmore, school zones will not be in effect in the community.

The announcement was made on the Town of Strathmore’s social media on March 17.

Normally when you approach a school sign with a maximum speed posted with it, you are entering a school zone. Drivers must not exceed the posted speed when the zone is in effect.

Provincial Government regulations say, motorists are not permitted to pass or attempt to pass another vehicle travelling in the same direction within a school zone when the zone is in effect.

Playground zones, like the one located on Lakeside Boulevard near Holy Cross Collegiate, will still be in effect.

According to the town, schools are no longer in session, which means that School Zones are no longer in effect. Speed limits are as posted.

They ask that motorists watch for children when travelling through school or playground zones regardless.
