The Junior B Wheatland King's Main Camp took place from August 23-25.

The camp is held as an evaluation process to put together an all around balanced team for the upcoming season. In total, over 70 athletes signed up for the camp.

“It's a good evaluation process also for the returning guys, because we like to see what kind of shape they are in,” explained Joel Robinson, Head Coach for the Wheatland Kings.

The camp pitted players against each other in games that ran throughout Friday night, Saturday, and Sunday morning. The weekend wrapped up on Sunday afternoon with a Top 40 game, which consisted of what the Kings considered the best players at the camp.

Robinson added that this year there is a significant amount of young players, which will influence a young team this season. However, the camp had a handful of returning veteran players as well.

According to Robinson, the team has a strenuous exhibition schedule which will help them get into shape, “You are going to see a different team this year, and it will show when we play Okotoks in the exhibition, and then again in the regular season.”

The Wheatland King's first home exhibition game is on September 6 at 8 p.m. against the High River Flyers.
