Environment Canada issued a heat warning for Strathmore and the surrounding area. The area stretches as far west as Cochrane, as far south as Claresholm, and up to Consort going north.

heat warning

The 7-day forecast predicts our highs to be in the 28°C to 30°C range, with our overnight lows between 13°C - 15°C.

Environment Canada advises people to take the following precautions:

  • Consider rescheduling outdoor activities to cooler hours of the day.
  • Take frequent breaks from the heat, spending time in cooled indoor spaces where possible.
  • Drink plenty of water and other non-alcoholic, non-caffeinated beverages to stay hydrated.
  • Check for your children or pets before you exit your vehicle. Do not leave any person or pet inside a closed vehicle, for any length of time.

Infants, children's, seniors, and people with pre-existing health conditions may be more at risk to experience severe effects from heat, so Environment Canada asks that you pay particular attention to these people.

Symptoms of heat stroke or heat exhaustion can include lack of sweat, confusion, fainting, and high body temperature.
