Residents in the Strathmore region should be advised that as part of Emergency Preparedness Week, the Alberta Emergency Alert system will send out a test alert across Alberta using the wireless public alerting system, today at 1:55 p.m.

According to the Strathmore Fire Department, this is not just a test of the Alberta Emergency Alert system, it's an opportunity for all of us to test our own readiness to respond. Consider how you can encourage community members to use the test alerts to start a conversation about preparedness and inspire them to take preparedness action.

Starting April 6, 2018, Canadians  began receiving life-saving emergency alerts to cell phones and wireless devices that are compatible with Wireless Public Alerting (WPA). The Canadian Wireless Public Alert system was developed by the federal government in partnership with the provinces and territories, Pelmorex Inc., and wireless service providers.
