Strathmore RCMP have provided an update on the fatal shooting at Mountain View Campground near Conrich.

Early morning on January 28, Strathmore RCMP responded to a 911 call reporting that gunshots had been fired at the Mountain View Campground on Range Road 284 and Highway 1.

Investigators arrived and found a man in the campground, suffering from gunshot wounds.

EMS provided care; however, the man was pronounced dead at the scene.

The man has been identified as a 26-year-old resident of Calgary.

"Public safety is not at risk following this homicide," said Strathmore RCMP staff sergeant, Mark Wielgosz. 

The Alberta RCMP Major Crimes Unit is now leading the investigation and an autopsy has been scheduled for Monday (Jan 29).

Strathmore Now reached out to Mountain View Campground and they declined to comment.
