Canada Day is coming up soon, which also means a day full of fun activities will once again fill Kinsmen Park!

The Town of Strathmore's Event Coordinator Vanessa Cunningham explained what to expect for 2023.

"This year we've brought back many of the favourite events, including the kids' train and petting zoo. Some of the other highlights people can expect to see are inflatable obstacles, potato sack races, and the kids' bike parade sponsored by Re/max Key. The Strathmore Scouts will be hosting canoe rides in the lake and the Kiwanis Club of Strathmore will be setting up a fishing station," she said.

Among the many events listed above, we can also look forward to a pancake breakfast starting the day off and fireworks to end it. Cunningham added the Farmers' Market will also make their return after a successful debut at last year's Canada Day.

"It was a great turnout last year for them and they're excited to bring back with about 30 to 40 vendors this year."

One thing Cunningham is especially excited about is the amount of live entertainment that will be featured at the Kinsmen Park Amphitheatre. Going all day from 11:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., the day will be hosted by Greg Rider (who is also performing) and will feature many amazing local performers, including but not limited to:

  • The Holy Cross Collegiate Drumline
  • Paws Fur Fun Dog Show
  • Expressions the Dance Gallery

"We've curated a dynamic and inclusive event that celebrates the rich artistic talents of our community," Cunningham said.

Having the Holy Cross Collegiate Drumline make an appearance is a nice surprise for Cunningham, as they typically wouldn't perform outside of the school year but are making a special Canada Day appearance.

"They're so excited, they had wrapped up for the season with school being done, and then after I'd asked them to reach out, they thought about it and they were like, 'yeah, we're actually going to work on a new number just for Canada Day,' so it should be great."
