One in two Canadians will be diagnosed with some sort of cancer in their lifetime, and one in four is expected to lose their fight to cancer. With those odds, pretty much any person you talk to has a story of their own battle or someone they know who has battled cancer.

Sue Philp, who works at Lifepath Wellness in Chestermere, is battling cancer for the second time. Five years ago Sue was diagnosed with stage three cancer and started the first fight for her life with radiation and chemotherapy. A little over a year ago doctors told her she was essentially cancer-free, Unfortunately, the cancer would return when Sue found a lump near her neck and started feeling pain in her chest with difficulty breathing. She was taken to emergency where they realized she had pleural effusion, fluid containing cancer, around her lungs and heart.

Graydon Pease, a representative from Lifepath Wellness, explained some details about Sue's situation. "Sue is dealing with cancer for the second time in four years and this time it's not one that she can get treatment for here. So we are raising some funds to give her some hope and get her the treatment that is available. We have been sending her to the Baja Med Group down in Tijuana, Mexico in which we have some contacts there and they are doing Immunotherapy," explained Pease.

If you've never met Sue, Pease said, "she is an amazing woman, as soon as you walk into Lifepath her smile lights up a room and she makes you a part of her world immediately."

The fundraiser, Strength For Sue, was supposed to take place on February 8 at the Lakeside Golf Club in Chestermere but will be postponed until a later date.
