The Town Council chambers in the municipal building will be open to the public tonight for a viewing party to help cheer on Jessica Sevick and her rowing partner Gabrielle Smith at the Tokyo Olympics.

The two are competing in the Women’s Double Sculls A Finals.

Geoff Person, Communications Manager for the Town of Strathmore had this to say about the event.

"The viewing party is something that we're really excited about, and I think it's really great to celebrate current and past residents when they're when they have a major success like getting to the Tokyo Olympics.”

The doors for the event will open at about 5:30 p.m. so get to the office on time. The actual rowing competition will begin at about 6:18 p.m. local time.

The event will be hosted in the council chambers, and depending on the attendance, the two will open up the glass doors in the new office to provide a bit of overflow space in the atrium.

“It's a really great way to use this new facility,’ said Person. In the meantime, the town has filled up their social media pages with information about Sevcik, Smith and the Double Sculls event. The electric sign leading into Strathmore on the highway is posting positive messages of support for Sevick and Smith, and Mayor Pat Fule has posted a video message on Facebook about Sevick and Smith.

Today has also been proclaimed by the Town Council as 'Jessica Sevick Day!'

Person says, "It'd be really great if residents and businesses showed some support in their own way as well by putting up their own messages of support.

“It’s even more meaningful when businesses and residents also host their own their own sorts of events,” he says.
