There isn’t anything better than spending a summer evening watching someone try to hang on as a bull tosses them around a rodeo infield.

This statement rang true this year, especially at the Rockyford Lions’ 2021 Bullarama. A record-breaking amount of people attended the event this year after a

It wasn't just the bulls that had some tricks in their back pocket! Local trick riders entertained the crowd with their daredevil moves! long hiatus due to COVID-19.

“We had over 1,220 people come through our gates on Saturday evening,” explained Lions member Darcy Burke. “Normally, we see 700 to 800 people at our Bullaramas in the past, this has definitely blown all of our records. We are so very impressed and proud as a community and as a Lions Club.”

Over two dozen cowboys entered into the competition to have their chance to climb atop a bull and hold on.

Burke explained that the bulls were really the star of the show that night. “The bulls certainly won the event. One bull rider made it the 8 seconds, but everybody else was bucked off,” he chuckled. “But that's what happens, it's the man against beast and the bulls did win.”

In addition to bulls, the evening also had mutton bustin', wild pony races, trick riding, beer gardens, and a top-notch fireworks show.

“We really extended our firework show. There were extra funds put into that and we've had so many positive comments come back about it. The fireworks show to cap that evening off, it's just a really good final thing for people to go home with and just ties into the whole day.”

The night was such a success that the beef on a bun dinner was sold out completely and the stands at the grounds were full along with the beer gardens.

Burke explained that they are still tallying up the amount of money that was raised, but he estimates that it is around the $25,000 mark.

An all-ages affair! “It helps out majorly for the Lions Club. We have been using reserve funds to support community clubs and organizations during COVID-19 as we weren't able to do any fundraisers. Bullarama this year certainly helps with those funds and support this community moving forward.”

In terms of atmosphere, Burke said that he was very happy to see such an excited crowd. “I think, at the end of the day, what can be said is that people are so ready to be out and socializing again. I mean, bull riding always is impressive for people, and I can just see people are ready to be out in the crowd.”

The Lions are looking forward to celebrating a milestone anniversary this year as well. They were supposed to celebrate the 75th Anniversary of the creation of the Rockyford Lions Club, but COVID-19 put a halt to those plans.

Burke said that the whole club is looking forward to celebrating this year in November.
