It was a winning weekend for the Wheatland Warriors hockey team. The bantam team who play in the South Central Alberta Hockey League in Strathmore won three games in a row this weekend, showing that their good work ethic has paid off.

The first game was a 6-1 win over the Cranbrook Hornets on Friday, then the team faced the Hornets again on Saturday and beat them 7-2, and finally, on Sunday the Warriors defeated the Lethbridge Hurricanes with a score of 5-2.

In the final game of their weekend road trip against the Hurricanes, the Hurricanes opened up scoring in the first period, but the Warriors were remarkable as the team scored four goals in the second period and their fifth and final goal in the third.

According to Head Coach Brett Thurston, “I was very happy with how they played. Obviously three games in three days are very taxing.”

“I thought they played really well, they played hard. We certainly never question their work effort, and great character in the room. We battled, and had to face some adversity a couple games, but the guys responded well, and ended up winning some important games,” he said.

The coach explained that they are continually working at getting better. In the future, they might be working on system details.

“Overall I think we are doing a pretty good job,” he said.

The team will face their rivals from last weekend, the Lethbridge Hurricanes at home on Saturday, Nov. 2 at the Strathmore Family Centre. The puck drops at 4:45 p.m.
