Residents of Lambert Village speak on the noise coming from Kinsmen Park
At last week's town council meeting, local resident of Lambert Village John Trofimuk expressed his concern with the noise that comes from the pavilion east of the town hall every night. "We listen to squealing tires, loud vehicle sounds because most of them don't have mufflers, there's horn honking going on and this goes on until midnight sometimes even later. In the summertime, we can't even open our windows to get fresh air because it's too noisy, and in the evening, sitting on the deck is no fun because of all the noise." Trofimuk address the speeding that is happening along Park Lane Drive, he said that some vehicles will start at the stop sign and then go as fast as they can before they will hit a curb. "One of these days something is going to happen there, so it might be nice to see a lower speed limit put in place along that stretch, something like 30 kilometres or something to that nature. We are here trying to enjoy our retirement and it is hard to do so when we listen to that every night." Councilor Melissa Langmaid came with a motion ready for consideration to prepare a report that outlines potential remedial actions to address the noise and speed complaints along Park Lane Drive and within the rear parking lots surrounding the pavilion. Councilor Jason Montgomery spoke to the motion by saying that this is an issue that has been brought to council before and that it is high time that something is done about it. "I live nearby, and I walk through Kinsmen Park most days. I know exactly what you are talking about Mr. Trofimuk, I walk through in the morning, and I see garbage left behind as well, and frankly I don't like it, and something needs to be done. That doesn't mean that we need to spend money, but I am sure that there are resources that we can use to combat this problem." Montgomery said that they have heard the message loud and clear from residents. It its going take council to care enough about it and make sure that something gets done and he believes that they are committed to making a change. Councillor Denise Peterson expressed her support for the motion but also stating that these complaints came far before the building of the gazebo and pavilion. "My good friend Rita, who lived around the area used to call me at very early times in the morning, normally around 1:00 and tell me about all of the noise that was happening on the other side of the parking lot, and she was pretty adamant that it was a big problem then." Carol Curry a resident from Park Lane Place then addressed council by saying that with people driving so recklessly around her house that a person even drove right through her fence one night. "Our fence has been hit a few times and what we as residents of Park Lane Place would like to see is a speed bump to slow them up. That's all we ask. We are sick and tired of the noise every night. Something needs to get done soon." The motion that was on the table ended up being a report outlining potential mitigations for speed and noise along Park Lane Drive and disturbing activities that occur at the Kinsman Park Pavilion and to return with that report on October 11th at the Committe of the Whole meeting where the report will be discussed. The motion was carried unanimously.
