The first day of Spring is tomorrow (March 19), but it looks like Strathmore will be seeing more snow in the days ahead.

By Tuesday night there will be rain to start the evening but that will be quick to transition into snow.

"What's important to remember here is that we can get snow in parts of Alberta, well into May. So this is not particularly different or unusual," explained Weather Pepardness Meteorologist for Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC), Natalie Hazel.

ECCC is predicting up to 10 centimeters of snow between Tuesday and Wednesday night.

"The warm front associated with this system is sitting through Saskatchewan. So those two fronts are framing the warm sector of this low-pressure system and that's why you are in very warm conditions at the moment, and we are expecting these warm conditions," Hazel said.

However, temperatures for Strathmore are expected to plummet throughout the week.

"By tomorrow we see a daytime high of only plus 5 as that system moves through the cold front."

Rain will be falling, then freezing, and then it switches to snow, so then the snow is on top of the ice road conditions could be quite poor in several places in southern and central Alberta.

"The coldest temperatures that I can see right now are later in the week in the overnight and early morning periods, but we are not talking about the extreme cold."

Hazel explains that there are several models still suggesting more snow into next week, but not as significant as what we're expecting this week.

"We don't see temperatures get back to 0 until maybe the 29th of March, so the end of the month."

As of 11:30 p.m. this morning (March 18), Strathmore and the area have been under a special weather statement.
