Saudi Arabia Closes Borders to Canadian Wheat and Barley

Saudi Arabia has stopped all imports of Canadian wheat and barley.

This is a result of a diplomatic dispute between the two countries.

Canada exports about 135,000 tonnes of barley and roughly 70,00 tonnes of wheat to Saudi Arabia each year.

Collision Near Taber Claims the Lives of Two Young Boys

Two Hutterite youth were killed near Taber on Sunday in a role over accident with a tractor and trailer.

RCMP say it looks like the two boys, along with other kids, had been riding on the trailer when it rolled at the bottom of a steep embankment.

Of the other six people involved in the collision, two other kids were taken to the Taber hospital to be treated for minor injuries, one individual was taken by STARS to the Foothills Hospital in Calgary in serious condition and three others managed to walk away.

Simplot to Use Gene Editing Technology to Eliminate Food Waste

The J.R. Simplot Company has announced that it has entered into a licensing agreement with Corteva Agriscience, Agriculture Division of DowDuPont, and the Broad Institute of MIT and Harvard, that will provide the company with access to a number of gene editing tools.

The technology can reduce bruising and browning of potatoes, helping to eliminate a portion of the 3.6 billion pounds of potato food waste each year.
