On February 18,  the 2020 Alberta Winter Games in Airdrie wrapped up.  The four-day event saw 1700 young Albertan athletes all competed in 19 sporting events that saw a number of local competitors receive medals for their performance.

Strathmore ringette players Camille Gauvin, Jan, and Bailee Wathen won third place.  Chestermere wrestler Connor Bren won first All-Around Team and second in 83 Kg category.  Makayla Watson won first in hockey and she is from Brooks.

Each of the athletes needed to qualify for their position in the Zones competition for their sport, so the talent was guaranteed.

Leela Sharon Aheer, Minister of Culture, Multiculturalism, and Status of Women said, "The skill, resolve and love of sport displayed by these young athletes at the 2020 Alberta Winter Games was inspiring. My sincere congratulations to all the competitors; may your future in sport continue to shine. The success of these games also rests with the host city, game organizers and volunteers. Through their warmth and hospitality, they certainly set the bar high for these games. We look forward to seeing you all at the 2020 Alberta Summer Games in Lethbridge."

The Alberta Cup, for the zone achieving the most medals was awarded to Zone 3 (Calgary).

The Alberta government provided $420,000 to support the 2020 Alberta Winter Games, including $70,000 designated for cultural activities.

The event generates approximately $3 million in economic impact for host communities.
